Ross. I was thinking about adding a "Player Characters" page, and then linking the characters that people come up with in that page. I know I have editing rights, but didn't want to walk all over your organization if you have something in mind. Let me know.

Ross said

Go for it. I envision the organization of the pages as growing and evolving. As I get more pages up, I'll introduce more internal hyperlinks, and I'll have to start putting in more structure, but I think I'll let that happen sort of organically.

I noticed that once you name a page, you can't change it. Is that a limitation of PBWorks, or something you've locked down? Just curious.

Ross said

at 4:22 pm on Aug 26, 2009

Actually, you can. You just can't rename the front page. If you hit the pages and files link on the upper right, it gives you a list of all your pages and there are links below the name of each page to rename the page.

Ross said

at 4:23 pm on Aug 26, 2009

Also the sidebar can't be renamed.

Randall Walker said

Hey Ross. Care if I fool around with links in the sidebar. Thought it might make site navigation easier. That way (if you wanted), you could move the links off the main page and have a nice splash screen or fancy logo or something. Just a thought.

I don't mind if you want to work on the presentation. It needs the work. I'm just aiming for content at the moment.

Saul Flanner said

Randy, since you mentioned a "fancy logo or something" I felt compelled to do a little work in Illustrator.

Saul Flanner said

at 1:23 am on Aug 29, 2009

And since I can never do just "a little work", I did this instead.

Iggy McGort said

I think I added my character sheet correctly. It's not stylish, but it is functional.

Randall Walker said

at 11:56 am on Aug 29, 2009

Good logo. A little "Buck Rogers" maybe, but it looks pretty good!

Saul Flanner said

at 1:41 pm on Aug 29, 2009

Yeah. It turned out a little more "sci-fi" than I had originally planned, but I suppose that's one of the stumbling blocks when your concept has four celestial bodies in it. I suppose I could give it a little more "fantasy" feel if I treated the text differently... I'll think about that.

Someone tell Kai and Mike to get on the ball!

Someone tell Randy to take a chill pill. I'm pretty sure I beat Ross's deadline by a whole day.

Izzkyndyrun said

at 8:38 am on Aug 31, 2009

Try living with him sometime, Kai...welcome to my world! Truth be told, I think he is just VERY excited to have a game to play with people who seem to be excited to play. (And I try to get him to take the pill, but have you ever tried to "sneak" medicine into a reluctant recipient???)

Randall Walker said

at 8:43 am on Aug 31, 2009

In my defense, Kai, I didn't realize that that Ross has set a deadline for anyone to adhere to. Had I known, I would have started my pushing after said deadline. Also, Anna is right. Chill pills are hard to swallow, and give me a headache right afterward (brain freeze?). I'll try to settle down. Now...MAKE A CHIBI!!! :-)

Ross said

at 3:17 pm on Aug 31, 2009

The deadline I mentioned was just to have character concept (race & class) by yesterday. And then having finished characters by Friday. I need to talk to Mike and see how he is coming. By the way, Anna. What is Izzy?

Ross said

So far, all the characters look great. With two leaders and several strikers, you should be fairly robust. Two small things:

Saul, I didn't mention this, but I wanted everyone to use the point buy system for ability scores. Othlo is slightly over. I think the easiest fix with the least effect on your character would be to drop your intelligence from 11 to 8 and you're right in line. It changes almost nothing mechanically for a ranger (a couple of your untrained skills and straight-up intelligence checks are slightly more difficult). Just one swift blow to Othlo's head with this shovel, and you're good.

Anna, Izzkyndyrun looks great. The only thing I see is as a small halfling, the morningstar is too big for you. You have to use the mace as a two-handed weapon instead. It drops your damage from 1d10 to 1d8, but otherwise changes nothing.

Aargh!

Ross said

at 2:02 am on Sep 1, 2009

What's up, Iggy? Your character sheet looked fine. You just have to use your scimitar two-handed as a small character. (I'm going to assume your scimitar is well-balanced enough to get the versatile property. Your character sheet says you are medium-sized. That's inaccurate. Goblins are small characters. Must be a small error in the creator you used.

Ross said

Also, if you haven't done so already, please provide an image they want to use for their map token. (It does not have to be a a chibi :)) If you are happy using your account profile pic, that's cool, too. Just let me know what image you prefer.

Ross said

at 2:35 am on Sep 1, 2009

Anna, I guess I need an image for your spirit bear, too.

Iggy McGort said

at 11:50 am on Sep 1, 2009

I guess you can use the chibi. It's goofy, but why not. Saves me coming up with another image.

Scott, I've got TokenTool. Do you want me to make your token for you, or do you want to download the tool and do it yourself? Happy to help, if you need it.

Randall Walker said

First stab at a character background is up. As my usual M.O., it's a story-like background. You can read between the lines for the real information.

Iggy McGort said

at 12:10 am on Sep 2, 2009

Randy, I don't care if you make the token. Have fun.

Ross said

at 12:26 am on Sep 3, 2009

Well, I've got six complete character sheets and character backgrounds rolling in. I guess I better run a test of the software in the next couple of days, and set a date for a first session.

Ross said

Ack! Computer fan finally burnt out. Smelled bad. Don't know if I've damaged anything but the fan. (commenting from work) Will examine more thoroughly today.

Ross said

Computer boots up fine, so no catastrophe. Fan is toast, but I can deal with that.

Randall Walker said

Hey Ross, I was gonna leave a note for everyone on Facebook, but it was down, so I'll comment here. When did you want to set aside a time for testing MapTools? Anna and I both have the software loaded on our pcs, already. Any evening except Friday evening (our small group night) is okay with me. You might also be sounding out your locals on the best night (and with what frequency) you want to play. My dream scenario is every other week on a fixed evening, but I can be flexible. Your thoughts? Anyone else's thoughts? Scott or Mike since you guys are not local to Ross (like Anna and I) are you comfortable with MapTools. I have some experience with it, so if you need assistance, let me know. Happy to help.

Any evening is good for me, except most nights I'm not home until after 9:00 PM

I cannot add resources to the library in Map Tools. Is there a particular version I should be downloading? When I select the option of adding to resource library nothing happens. Tutorial shows that an explorer window should open to let me find the files I want to add. Help.

Hooray. Fan on computer replaced. Now witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL battle station! Also bought a new microphone/headset.

Randy, are you available to do a maptools test wednesday or thursday evening, and if so, what time?

Everyone,
I would like to hear everyone's availability here as well. My schedule is goofy. I work 10:30 PM - 8:30 AM four nights in a row and then have four nights off in a row. So, my schedule shifts one day each week. Sunday was the last day of my four days on, so I have Monday-Thursday off this week. Next week I will have Tuesday through Friday. etc... Anyway, it is something I will have to work around. Although I kind of know Saul and Kai's schedule, it would be helpful I think if everyone listed their available times so that we can all compare.

Iggy McGort said

at 2:19 am on Sep 8, 2009

I'm always off on Sunday. Otherwise its a crap shoot what other day I get off during the week. I can be up late any night, because I work from 11:30 - 8:15 (nominally) I'm usually never off before 9:00PM

Also, a cmd - lvl piece of malware was blocking me from adding to the resources in Map Tools. Malware is now gone. Map Tools all better.

Iggy McGort said

Also, I have a mic (somewhere) and ear buds. Will I need a web cam. I've got a cheapy one somewhere. That is if the boys haven't destroyed it.

Randall Walker said

I'm pretty much free any evening except Friday, when Anna and I have small group. Anna will be able to give you details about what evenings she has free (I believe she has church on Wednesday and Bible Study on Thursday evenings. Oddly enough, no church activities (for the most part) on Sunday evening. This is a day that would generally work out well, but I guess would come and go as Ross' schedule rotates through the week. Scott, not sure we'll need a webcam, unless Ross says otherwise. My netbook has one built in, but I'd have to acquire one for Anna's laptop if we go that route. I'm pretty sure that with the battle map and dice tools (or using macros to roll dice) and the voice chat, we won't really need a webcam. Anna and I both have headsets (holdovers from my "WoW" days"), so we're covered there. I recommend Skype for our voice tool, (free, easy to use, decent quality), but if someone else has another suggestion, I'm game. Scott, glad to hear that removing the malware fixed your problem. Hopefully, you'll be good to go now.

Randall Walker said

Ross, I'm available either of those nights from 7:00pm into the evening (I try to get to bed by 11:00pm, I hope it wouldn't actually take that long). I'll send you an email with my cell. Alternatively, you can send me your Skype ID, and I'll find you there. Either way, not a problem.
